class=\"tb_text_wrap\">\n\t\t<p>Please note that OTESSA has the authority to assign accepted proposals to the most appropriate format. Therefore, you may submit a proposal for a 50-minute session and be assigned to a 20-minute session, a roundtable, etc. If you require a format, such as a roundtable, for a special accommodation, please indicate so in the \u201cComments to the Editor\u201d section of the submission form.<\/p>\n<p>We encourage a diversity of submissions, such as formal research dissemination, works-in-progress, reflections on practice, conceptual and pedagogical explorations, demos, and showcases. We encourage the use of interactive sessions throughout all formats. Any of the following formats may be used; the list is not exclusive.\u00a0<\/p>\n<h5>20-minute <span style=\"color: #c4c2c2;\"><em>and 50-minute presentations<\/em><\/span><\/h5>\n<p>A 20-minute presentation session explores new ideas, works-in-progress, summarizes new research and practice, etc.. Time for audience discussion will be provided at the end of consecutive sessions grouped in a time slot.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p><em><span style=\"color: #c4c2c2;\">A 50-minute presentation session will be given more time to go into depth to share new ideas, research findings, innovative practices, or to identify a problem or dissect a pressing issue for collaborative input.<\/span><\/em><\/p>\n<h5>5-minute lightning talks<\/h5>\n<p>A 5-minute lightning talk is a very short presentation, where a speaker is required to make their point clearly and succinctly. The speaker must articulate their topic in a quick and insightful manner using slides. These brief talks are intended to grab the attention of the audience, while communicating key information.<\/p>\n<h5>50-minute submitted panels<\/h5>\n<p>A panel session provides for an in-depth examination around a convening question and addresses specific problems or topics, often from a variety of viewpoints, followed by audience participation. A variety of formats may be included, interactive multimedia renderings; panels; or group discussions. The chairperson and discussant for this type of session should be organized by the session presenters.<\/p>\n<h5><em><span style=\"color: #c4c2c2;\">15-minute small-group roundtable discussions.\u00a0<\/span><\/em><\/h5>\n<p><em><span style=\"color: #c4c2c2;\">A roundtable session is a small group discussion centered upon a paper prepared by the table organizer. A roundtable is an excellent way to present and receive feedback on your research or practice, as it inspires rich conversations. At OTESSA, we have intentionally omitted the poster format and encourage those seeking smaller conversations to submit to the roundtable format instead. Multimedia elements may be incorporated if the presenter brings their own full-charged laptop or similar table-top device.<\/span><\/em><\/p>\n<p>\u00a0<\/p>    <\/div>\n<\/div>\n<!-- \/module text -->\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t\t<div  data-anchor=\"proceedings\" data-lazy=\"1\" class=\"module_row themify_builder_row tb_has_section tb_section-proceedings tb_az9v668 tf_w\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t<div class=\"row_inner col_align_top tb_col_count_1 tf_box tf_rel\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t<div  data-lazy=\"1\" class=\"module_column tb-column col-full tb_qe6o669 first\">\n\t\t\t\t\t<!-- module text -->\n<div  class=\"module module-text tb_cgdf237   \" data-lazy=\"1\">\n\t<h3 class=\"module-title\">Proceedings<\/h3>    <div  class=\"tb_text_wrap\">\n\t\t<p><span style=\"color: #c4c0c0;\"><em>Authors submitting to the conference have the option to have their proposal considered for publication as a proceeding, in addition to consideration as a presentation. Those submitting for a proceeding will receive one of the following review decisions: Accept for both proceeding and presentation (revisions may be invited); Reject for proceeding\/Accept for presentation; Reject for both proceeding and presentation<\/em><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #c4c0c0;\"><em>Opportunities for authors to submit full-length papers for consideration for a special issue are also being explored.<\/em><\/span><\/p>    <\/div>\n<\/div>\n<!-- \/module text -->\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t\t<div  data-anchor=\"submissions\" data-lazy=\"1\" class=\"module_row themify_builder_row tb_has_section tb_section-submissions tb_77hz189 tf_w\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t<div class=\"row_inner col_align_top tb_col_count_1 tf_box tf_rel\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t<div  data-lazy=\"1\" class=\"module_column tb-column col-full tb_9aiw192 first\">\n\t\t\t\t\t<!-- module text -->\n<div  class=\"module module-text tb_p0ak740   \" data-lazy=\"1\">\n\t<h3 class=\"module-title\">Submission Info<\/h3>    <div  class=\"tb_text_wrap\">\n\t\t<p>We encourage works-in-progress as well as reflections on practice, conceptual explorations, and formal research dissemination.<\/p>\n<h5>Creating a Profile<\/h5>\n<p>OTESSA expects each author submitting to the conference to also participate in the review process. When you create your OJS profile, please ensure you have checked the box indicating your willingness to serve as a reviewer. In addition to entering keywords relating to your area of interest, please add the languages you are able to review in (e.g., English, French, etc.). We also hope you can add on any analytical or technical processes you have expertise in (e.g., quantitative analysis, qualitative analysis, mixed methods, indigenous research methods, etc.)<\/p>\n<p>Your proposal should contain four main elements:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>the names of ALL authors and presenters<\/li>\n<li>an abstract (up to 200 words)<\/li>\n<li>a proposal (up to 1200 words)<\/li>\n<li>a statement to address audience engagement and interaction (up to 250 words).\u00a0<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>The title should be written in plain language and should clearly describe what the session is about. Titles without enough information may not attract an audience. Titles are entered into a text field in the Online Journal System (OJS).\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Please enter the names of all authors and presenters and review the eligibility section for more information on limits on participation.<\/p>\n<p>The abstract cannot be longer than 200 words and should be written in plain language. Please be catchy, concise, and coherent. Abstracts are entered into a text field in OJS.<\/p>\n<p>The proposal (Word document upload of up to 1200 words, not including references) should include APA citations for key concepts. The text should be double-spaced, 11-point or greater, sans-serif style font (e.g., Arial, Calibri, Verdana).\u00a0 On the OJS system, drop-down menus will allow you to select the presentation format, whether you opt to submit for a presentation format only or if you want to submit your proposal for inclusion in a proceedings collection as well. Lastly, you will also be able to select a drop-down menu to indicate if your selection of research-oriented or practice-oriented review criteria.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>The statement to address audience engagement and interaction (Word document upload of up to 250 words) should include an outline of plans for audience engagement in the room.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Note: All submissions should include APA citations for key concepts, and submissions to the presentation, panel, and roundtable formats should include an additional outline of plans for audience engagement in the room.<\/p>\n<h5>Eligibility<\/h5>\n<p>Active membership is not required at the time of submission. Presenters must be a member of OTESSA, must register for the conference, be prepared to attend the conference, and make their presentations in person (unless otherwise approved). In the event that you are unable to attend, you are asked to notify us as soon as possible.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Presenters of roundtable sessions are requested to bring copies of their proposals and lists of resources related to their work to the sessions. Doing so will enable participants to discuss the topic more effectively.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Presenters are allowed to be first author or sole presenter TWICE for the entire OTESSA conference. All authors and presenters MUST be listed on a submission. This enables us to identify and trouble-shoot conflicts at an early stage. If an author appears on a number of submissions as co-author, we will only ensure no conflict occurs for two sessions.<\/p>\n<h5>Review Process<\/h5>\n<p>All proposals receive a double-blind review by at least two reviewers who have presented their work at previous conferences and\/or who have published peer-reviewed research relevant to the submission topic. Proposals must conceal the identity of the author(s). Citing one\u2019s own work is permissible, but authors must ensure they do not reveal their identity. Proposals that do not adhere to this requirement may be rejected or returned for revision.<\/p>\n<p>Author identification must be removed from the MS Word document properties of the file. For Windows users, use the following procedure: File &gt; Info &gt; Check for issues &gt; Inspect document (inspect) &gt; Document properties and personal information (remove all). For Mac users, click on Tools &gt; Protect document &gt; Remove personal information from this file upon save.<\/p>\n<p>Each reviewer will be asked to provide feedback on how this work may be improved substantively, to help authors improve their work.<\/p>\n<p>Submissions may be accepted in a format other than what they were submitted for.<\/p>\n<p>Authors may enter in the \u201ccomments to the editor\u201d field, the names of any reviewers who they perceive may have a negative bias against their work. In these cases, steps will be taken to ensure a fair review.<\/p>\n<p>Since each submission requires a minimum of two reviewers, OTESSA expects each author submitting to the conference to also participate in the review process. The program indicates the languages of presentation and discussion. In any given session, the title reflects the language of presentation. OTESSA supports the practice of bilingual presentations for the official languages of Canada (French and English) and Indigenous languages (e.g., a presenter speaks in one language while the slides are in the other language; co-presenters each speaking one language; or a bilingual facilitator helping translate the Q&amp;A session).<\/p>\n<p>A bilingual session is defined as one in which presentations and discussions occur in either French or English, along with support in the other language. Support may take the form of presenter-supplied handouts, overheads, summaries or abstracts. Discussion moves freely between the two languages, French and English.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>The OTESSA Executive will make a reasonable effort to ensure public communications are available in both official Canadian languages and any additional languages. Please note, however, that our ability to meet these needs is expected to grow as we grow as a community and organization. We are attuned to the dark history of the denial of language in the oppression of marginalized groups and, where possible, will make a reasonable effort to translate into additional languages as well.
