Open ethics: Shifting practices from the periphery to the centre
As a provocation for the inaugural OTESSA conference, this presentation will question “where does open practice fall in the spectrum of paid and unpaid work among practitioners?”. In the 2020 iteration of OTESSA, some educators may be privileged to find open practice moving toward the centre of their desks. Many educators may still be struggling with a mix of on and off desk time and labour related to open practices. This session will apply a Liberating Structure format as an actively engaging opportunity to explore experiences, problems, and possible solutions around the systemic ethics of education workload and open practice. This exploration may help move participants toward a healthier balance of open values with compensated practice with a perspective of Ikigai (生き甲斐).
