Values for Open Pedagogy
We are exploring the ways in which we can promote and support open education and open pedagogy at our university. We are looking to establish a guiding vision and a set of values that can help us build on the work that’s already been done and define our course for the future. Using values for open education developed by Sinkinson, McAndrew, and Keyek-Franssen, we map the ways in which university faculty engaged in open educational resource creation envision their own motivations. Faculty members often started with one value and ended with another. As a teaching support-focused unit, we want to look into ways we can provide our faculty and instructors with meaningful opportunities to develop their open pedagogy. We will use the values developed by Sinkinson et al.—access and equity, agency and ownership, community and connection, and opportunity and risk—to move forward.
