Provincial and Federal Government Advocacy
The Fall has been a busy time with grant applications and government advocacy, the latter of which continues to this day. I have been in conversations with individuals within and around government systems advocating for our field. Understandably, these are difficult times financially for educational institutions and many members of our community have faced the impact of budgetary cuts on a personal level.
We all know that digital transformation is required, but can be challenging for these institutions to implement. I have submitted briefs to both provincial and federal government levels and am being consulted for the current British Columbia Post-Secondary Review with what I consider to be good traction.
There is also going to be another federal pre-budget submission due this summer. Please put on your thinking caps and consider what is needed at the 10,000-meter level to support our educational systems through these changes to create an inclusive and sustainable system, then send your ideas to me at president@otessa.org.
If you are a member who has been laid off, please stay with us and reach out for a complimentary pass. We are getting stronger as an organization given the importance of our area. Our Online and Victoria sites this year will include some sessions with a focus on system change and advocacy strategies. We encourage you to join us!
